Baseball Recap: Laporte Comes Up Short

Laporte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pine River-Backus Tigers. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Avery Hadrava was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Hadrava is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Keaton Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Laporte's record is now 4-4. As for Pine River-Backus, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Laporte is set to face off against their familiar foe Cass Lake-Bena at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Pine River-Backus will take on rival Walker-Hackensack-Akeley at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
