Basketball Recap: Del Sol Comes Up Short

Del Sol lost against Chaparral back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Del Sol Dragons came up short against the Chaparral Cowboys, falling 86-64. The Dragons were down 57-35 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Del Sol still got an impressive performance from Jaeden Alexander, who shot 5-for-8 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 32 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 50% of Del Sol's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kelly Dawson, who put up 12 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Del Sol was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Chaparral's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dameion Curry led the charge by shooting 4-for-5 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. Those 25 points gave Curry a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rayshawn Armstead, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards.

Del Sol's defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Chaparral, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Del Sol didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 84-40 loss against Cimarron-Memorial on the 13th. As for Chaparral, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 52-40 victory against Moapa Valley on the 10th.
