Roane County is a perfect 7-0 against McMinn Central since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Yellowjackets will look to defend their home field against the Chargers at 6:00 p.m. Roane County will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Roane County's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over Polk County. Those two runs were actually the fewest the Yellowjackets have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Polk County's batters probably weren't too happy with Sailor Presley, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Presley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Roane County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rhyan Henslee, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Reese Newman also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, McMinn Central made sure to put some runs up on the board against Loudon on Friday. The Chargers put the hurt on the Redskins with a sharp 13-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Riley Thompson, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayme Tiberio, who scored three runs while going 4-for-5.
McMinn Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Roane County pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for McMinn Central, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
McMinn Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Roane County has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for McMinn Central, though, as they've been averaging 9.6 hits. Given Roane County's sizable advantage in that area, the Chargers will need to find a way to close that gap.
