Basketball Recap: Kearny Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Crawford, Kearny was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They slipped by the Morse Tigers 60-59. This was payback for the Komets, who suffered a 67-50 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Kearny found their leader in sophomore Cameron Ackerman, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. Ackerman is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Arthur Minton was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Morse lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cameron Perez, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 16 points. Another player making a difference was Eldren Vergara, who posted 11 points.

Kearny has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.1 points per game. As for Morse, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.

Kearny didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 89-79 loss against Monte Vista on the 3rd. As for Morse, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 51-37 defeat against St. Joseph Academy on the 2nd.
