Football Recap: Fairfield Skates Past Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fairfield). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton Bearcats 56-12. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mules also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

It was another big night for Michael Barner, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also picked up 54 receiving yards and a pair of scores. He has become a key player for Fairfield: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Cooper Berg helped out on the ground, rushing for 103 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Fairfield was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 354 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Fairfield didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Nick Munoz and Austin Grieve. Fairfield received some extra help from Keegan Downen, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Despite the loss, Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton still got an impressive performance from Landen Butler, who rushed for 35 yards and a pair of TDs.

Fairfield's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Fairfield didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 44-25 victory against Hamilton County on the 24th. As for Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton, they have also already played their next contest, a 50-25 win against Edwards County on the 24th.
