Softball Recap: Holliston Takes a Loss

Holliston had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-13 to make it 13. They fell just short of the Bellingham Blackhawks by a score of 5-3. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blackhawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2022.

Holliston saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Schoenberg, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Julia Galileau also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Bellingham, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.

On Bellingham's side, Trista Corshia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits. Corshia has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ashley Kamin, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Cassidy Leger was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holliston will head out to take on Ashland at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Clockers have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Bellingham, they are taking a road trip to challenge Ursuline Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Blackhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
