Basketball Recap: Wildwood Extends Winning Streak to 21

It's playoff time, and Wildwood had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Williston Red Devils, posting a 68-40 win. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 28 points or more this season.

Wildwood's win on Saturday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kayla Lyde, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Lyde is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Brown, who went 6 for 14 to rack up 15 points along with six assists and four steals.

Wildwood was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Williston only posted eight assists.

Williston's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashlyn Young, who posted 11 points. Kaelynn Brown was another key player, putting up nine points and eight rebounds.

The victory keeps them at an undefeated 21-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points over those games. As for Williston, their loss dropped their record down to 18-3.

Wildwood and Williston should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Wildwood (ranked fifth) will meet Marathon (ranked 244th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wildwood will be looking to keep their 14-game home win streak dating back to last season alive. Meanwhile, Williston will square off against Hawthorne at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday up 71 places (23 vs. 94).
