Basketball Recap: Stewartsville Triumphs

Stewartsville proved they can win big last Monday (they won by 67) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged the Winston Red Birds out 52-49. This was payback for the Cardinals, who suffered a 61-39 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Stewartsville pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Winston, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Stewartsville Cardinals take on the Mound City Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mound City has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 3-0 during that stretch of close contests. As for Winston, they are taking a road trip to square off against Albany at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
