Basketball Game Preview: Valencia Jaguars vs. Highland Hornets

Valencia is 0-10 against Highland since April of 2021 but things could change on Monday. The Valencia Jaguars will take on the Highland Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Valencia is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-57 heartbreaker at the hands of Belen. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Jaguars have suffered against the Eagles since February 5, 2022.

Meanwhile, Highland came up short against St. Pius X on Friday and fell 58-45. The game marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Valencia will need to focus on slowing down Juan Limas, one of several Highland players who made an impact when they last played. He almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. What's more, Limas also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Owen Cheng, who posted 11 points.

Valencia's loss dropped their record down to 9-16. As for Highland, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-13.

Valencia came up short against Highland when the teams last played on Wednesday, falling 48-43. Can Valencia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
