Basketball Game Preview: Turpin Spartans vs. Milford Eagles

Turpin and Milford are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Turpin Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Milford Eagles at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Turpin is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Milford on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Turpin lost 63-38 to Milford. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 508th, while the Eagles are ranked 24th).

Turpin better keep an eye on Violet Shuluga. She was instrumental in Milford's win, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. What's more, Shuluga also racked up five assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gabby Chadwell, who went 5 for 12 en route to 12 points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Milford was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive games.

Milford pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Turpin, their loss dropped their record down to 2-19.
