Basketball Game Preview: Centennial Patriots vs. Rigby Trojans

The Centennial Patriots and the Rigby Trojans will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Centennial knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Rigby likes a good challenge.

Centennial saw some tournament action on Thursday. They blew past Highland 70-42. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 28 points or more this season.

Centennial's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Gabe Eddins, who went 6 of 12 en route to 18 points, and Payton Knudson, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 20 points. The contest was Eddins' seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Tibbets, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 12 points.

Meanwhile, Rigby faced Ridgevue in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Rigby took a 68-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ridgevue. It was the first time this season that the Trojans let down their fans at home.

Centennial's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Rigby, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2.

Centennial was able to grind out a solid victory over Rigby when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 61-52. The rematch might be a little tougher for Centennial since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
