Softball Game Preview: Oak Mountain Eagles vs. Thompson Warriors

Oak Mountain is 1-9 against Thompson since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Oak Mountain Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Thompson Warriors at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Oak Mountain: 2.6, Thompson: 1.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Tuesday, Oak Mountain didn't have quite enough to beat Chilton County and fell 5-4.

Oak Mountain got a good showing from Maddie Prevallet, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Prevallet has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Oak Mountain saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marian Cummings, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another was Brooke Monosky, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Thompson had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Huskies.

Thompson's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Oak Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.

Oak Mountain suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Thompson in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can Oak Mountain avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
