Basketball Recap: Milford Piles Up the Points Against Escalante

With a playoff win on the line, Milford rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They blew past the Escalante Moquis, posting an 81-39 win. The Tigers have beaten the Moquis the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Moquis has come to flipping the script.

Sadler Barnes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double with 16 points and nine assists. His big performance that evening made it 16 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kielen Tsosie, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.

Milford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They pulled down ten more offensive boards than Escalante's also-impressive total of ten.

When it comes to explaining why Escalante lost, don't look at Alonzo Gardner. Despite the final result, he posted eight points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards gave Gardner a new career-high. Kage Lyman was another key player, putting up five points.

Milford's victory bumped their record up to 21-4. As for Escalante, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season.

Milford and Bryce Valley will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday without much rest, having both just played. Milford knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Bryce Valley likes a good challenge. As for Escalante, they and Green River will face off at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday without much rest, having both just played. Green River will roll in looking for their 17th straight win, something Escalante surely won't give up without a fight.
