Basketball Game Preview: Camp Verde Cowboys vs. Mayer Wildcats

Camp Verde has gone 6-0 against Mayer recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. Both will round out the year against one another at at 11:00 a.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Camp Verde is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Williams 49-21. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Cowboys have posted since February 7th.

Camp Verde's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jazmin Torres, who dropped a triple-double on ten points, 12 rebounds, and 11 steals, and Wa'Siiva Lewis, who posted 13 points along with eight assists and six boards. With that strong performance, Torres is now averaging an impressive 2.4 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Bleak, who put up six points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Mayer beat Antelope 39-29 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Mayer found their leader in freshman Aspyn Colquitt, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Colquitt.

Mayer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Camp Verde's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Mayer, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Everything came up roses for Camp Verde against Mayer when the teams last played back in November of 2018, as the team secured a 62-19 win. Will Camp Verde repeat their success, or does Mayer have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
