Preview: Houlka Wildcats vs. West Union Eagles
Houlka and West Union are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The Houlka Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the West Union Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Houlka is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
Even though Smithville scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, Houlka still came out on top. Houlka strolled past Smithville with points to spare, taking the game 72-56. The win was just what Houlka needed coming off of a 59-34 defeat in their prior game.
Elijah Kilpatrick had an outrageously good game as he scored 20 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Neal Moore, who scored 12 points along with two steals and two blocks.
Meanwhile, West Union waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They enjoyed a cozy 68-51 victory over Itawamba Agricultural. Given West Union's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Itawamba Agricultural is ranked 112th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Houlka has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-14 record this season. As for West Union, their win bumped their record up to 24-4.
Houlka ended up a good deal behind West Union in their previous meeting two weeks ago, losing 70-55. Can Houlka avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
