Volleyball Recap: Grand Island Islanders vs. Columbus Discoverers
Grand Island was the 2-0 winner over Columbus when they last played one another back in September, but their luck changed this time around. The Islanders fell 2-0 to the Discoverers on Saturday.
While Grand Island was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-22.
Zada Gernstein paced Grand Island's offense, picking up seven kills. Gernstein got some help from Emery Glause and her nine assists. Gernstein also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Alexa Sackschewsky, each putting up two.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Columbus to victory, but perhaps none more so than Avery Bloebaum, who had 15 assists and four digs.
Grand Island has been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 15 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season. As for Columbus, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-13 record this season.
