Softball Recap: Rio Hondo Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Rio Hondo waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Santa Rosa Warriors an 18-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 0-0 back in March.

Madison Lopez made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danielle Rocha, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Olga Zuniga was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Rio Hondo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .682. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Rio Hondo's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Santa Rosa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Rio Hondo will square off against Raymondville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bobcats will need to watch out since the Bearkats have now posted at least ten runs in their last five contests. As for Santa Rosa, they will challenge Progreso at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Ants have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.11 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of.
