Baseball Recap: Webb Takes a Loss

Webb extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 3-13. They came up short against the Pacifica Christian Tritons, falling 15-0. Considering the last time the Gauls couldn't score was back in February, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Pacifica Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

For Pacifica Christian's part, Johnny Coopman made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Coopman has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Scout Escobedo, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Caleb Verst also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Webb has already played their next game, a 9-3 victory against Fairmont Prep on the 5th. As for Pacifica Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Costa Mesa on the 5th.
