The Avon Pirates will venture away from home to take on the Alcester-Hudson Cubs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Avon has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Avon is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 17-11 margin over Scotland/Menno on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Pirates with their most commanding win of the season.
Rilyn Thury was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ashley Tolsma, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Avon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Alcester-Hudson waltzed into their match on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Watchdogs.
Emma Moller made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alcester-Hudson let Laney Decker and Jaeley Christensen run wild. Decker went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Christensen went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Decker a new career-high. Paxtyn Moller also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
The win made it two in a row for Avon and bumps their season record up to 4-2-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Alcester-Hudson, their record is now 7-1.
Avon suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Alcester-Hudson in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
