Belleville West and Red Bud are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Maroons will host the Musketeers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Belleville West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Belleville West is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Waltonville.
Kara Kramer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Belleville West saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charli Coppernoll, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Addison Geluck also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Red Bud not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 20th (when they won 17-2). Everything went their way against Mascoutah as they made off with a 17-3 win. The Musketeers have beaten the Indians the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Indians has come to flipping the script.
Kendra Ehret tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had over her last three contests.
On the hitting side, Lilly Minemann was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Schmidt, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Red Bud's victory bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Belleville West, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Belleville West beat Red Bud 10-6 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Maroons repeat their success, or do the Musketeers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
