Basketball Recap: Maggie Frana's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Knoxville Catholic over Webb

Knoxville Catholic was the 53-39 winner over Webb when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Knoxville Catholic Fighting Irish lost to the Webb Spartans at home by a 57-40 margin on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Fighting Irish can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Spartans are ranked second).

Several Fighting Irish players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maggie Frana, who posted 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Frana has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Amaya Redd, who scored 14 points and six boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Knoxville Catholic and nudges their season record down to 12-11. As for Webb, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Knoxville Catholic will face off against West Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Webb has already played their next match (against Girls Prep), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
