Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Yucaipa

Yucaipa proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 15) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Citrus Valley Blackhawks. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Thunderbirds have posted against the Blackhawks since April 6, 2023.

Brooklyn Dent looked comfortable as she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Presley Walker was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Peyton Seevers, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Yucaipa, bringing their record up to 13-6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Citrus Valley, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Yucaipa will square off against Beaumont at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Citrus Valley, they will challenge Redlands at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Terriers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.14 runs per game on average), something the Blackhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
