Eaglecrest had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.1 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 66-47 win over the Cherokee Trail Cougars. Given the Raptors' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while the Cougars are ranked 63rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Eaglecrest's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lucas Kalimba, who made all 5 shots he took to post 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Noone, who posted 13 points and six boards.

Despite the defeat, Cherokee Trail saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jordan Mitchell went 8 of 16 on his way to 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mitchell has scored all season. Caleb Jensen was another key player, putting up nine points.

Eaglecrest pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points over those games. As for Cherokee Trail, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10.

Eaglecrest has already played their next match, an 80-45 victory against Mullen on the 7th. As for Cherokee Trail, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-47 loss against Overland on the 7th.
