Basketball Recap: Austin Comes Up Short

Austin was the 49-43 winner over Gateway College Preparatory when they last played one another back in November of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Maroons fell 67-57 to the Gators on Monday. Even if the Maroons couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their offense, which had struggled int the games prior.

When it comes to explaining why Austin lost, don't look at Kyle Vandergriff. Despite the final result, he went 5-for-11 en route to 15 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Hayes Bryant, who posted ten points.

Austin's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Gateway College Preparatory, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Austin will square off against Weiss at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The Maroons will need to watch out since the Wolves have now posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups. As for Gateway College Preparatory, they will face off against St. Stephen's Episcopal at 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd. The Gators' defense better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 62.3 points per game this season.
