Football Recap: Make It Ten in a Row for Cherokee

Cherokee extended their postseason success on Friday against Cyril. They blew past the Pirates 38-14. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs, who have now won eight contests by 24 points or more so far this season.

A big part of Cherokee's win came down to the chemistry between Trig Ream and his top target Dawson Schanbacher. Ream gained 334 total yards and three touchdowns while Schanbacher rushed for 245 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 14.4 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Schanbacher is now averaging an impressive 104.8 rushing yards per game.

Cherokee was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 541 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Cherokee didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Schanbacher and Tony MacIas. Schanbacher has been hot recently, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played.

The victory (which was Cherokee's tenth in a row) raised their record to 10-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.4 points on average over those games. As for Cyril, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 10-2 record.

Looking ahead, Cherokee will square off against Seiling at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chiefs will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. Cyril does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
