Football Recap: Benjamin Starts Season with Victory at Home

Benjamin gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Jupiter Christian Eagles 30-27. Things were looking grim for the Buccaneers in the second quarter (they were down by 21) but they stormed back to get the matchup.

Benjamin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Charlie Smith led the charge by throwing for 164 yards and two TDs, while also rushing for 45 yards and one touchdown. That's the most passing yards Smith has posted since back in September of 2024. Another back making a difference was Terrion Ivy-Akins, who rushed for 115 yards and one score.

Benjamin didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kamden Gilles and Bentley Wade.

Jupiter Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benjamin will face off against Jesuit at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Jupiter Christian, they will take on Oxbridge Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
