Softball Game Preview: Mohawk Warriors vs. McComb Panthers

The Mohawk Warriors are taking a road trip to challenge the McComb Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Mohawk is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

While Mohawk's victory against Colonel Crawford wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors won by a run and slipped past the Eagles 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted since April 20, 2024.

Aubrey Gottfried made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Mallory Brickner was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Trenna Johnson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for McComb, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. Everything went their way against Perry on Monday as they made off with a 14-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Commodores: they've now won five in a row.

Mohawk's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for McComb, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
