Softball Recap: Lansing Catholic Has No Trouble Against Williamston

Lansing Catholic had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Williamston on Thursday. The Cougars blew past the Hornets 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Zoey Gruber made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Lansing Catholic got a massive performance out of Taylor Dunneback, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Dunneback also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Avery Dunneback, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Lansing Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .621. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Lansing Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Williamston, the defeat snapped their winning streak at ten games and leaves them with a 15-5 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Lansing Catholic beat the Hornets by a score of 15-9 later that day.
