Football Game Preview: Balboa Buccaneers vs. Mission Bears

The Balboa Buccaneers will head out to take on the Mission Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Balboa has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 154 points over their last three contests.

Balboa's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 50-0 victory over Lowell. That 50 point margin sets a new team best for the Buccaneers this season.

Joseph Smith was nothing short of spectacular: he picked up 75 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 80 yards and one score. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in November of 2024.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Balboa was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 251 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 172 rushing yards in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Another reason for the win was Balboa's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Malik Hall was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.

Meanwhile, Mission lost 35-15 to Washington on Saturday. The Bears have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Balboa's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.0 points over those games. As for Mission, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Everything came up roses for Balboa against Mission in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 50-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buccaneers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
