Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask East Wilkes). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Ashe County Huskies 47-14. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cardinals' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Huskies are ranked 312th).

East Wilkes got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ty Bumgarner out in front who rushed for 100 yards and two scores on only nine carries. Bumgarner is becoming a predictor of the Cardinals' success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Another back making a difference was Ayden Guessford, who rushed for 65 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

East Wilkes didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Aiden Irwin, Reece Dobbins, and Grant Triplett picked up one apiece.

Despite the loss, Ashe County still got an impressive performance from Jaxon Dillard, who picked up 106 receiving yards and one TD.

East Wilkes has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.0 points on average over those games. As for Ashe County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

East Wilkes didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-7 victory against Elkin on the 24th. As for Ashe County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 34-6 loss against West Wilkes on the 24th.
