League recap: Jordan tops Northridge to extend winning streak

5A Region 3 recap Nov. 7, 2012

Jordan extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 3 this week by beating Northridge, 49-13. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

Jordan took down the Knights 49-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Austin Kafentzis threw for 98 yards and ran for 185 yards in the win.

Alta's dynamic duo of Chipper Lucero and Mack Richards proved tough for Syracuse to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lucero threw for 308 yards and three touchdowns and Richards had 97 yards receiving. Ammon Barker helped Alta's passing attack out by catching six balls for 91 yards.

The Hawks' Lucero and Barker have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Lucero has thrown for 3414 yards this season, while Barker, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 60 catches for 1183 yards. Kafentzis from Eric Kjar's team leads the league in rushing with 1713 yards.

Clay Moss of the the Beetdiggers is only 98 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 118 carries Moss has accumulated 902 yard this year.

Jordan's Nick West needs only 92 receiving yards against the Knights to crack 1,000 for the season. He has recorded 55 catches for 908 yards this year.

The Beetdiggers led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Northridge. Kafentzis in the win.
