Baseball Recap: Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Victorious

With a playoff win on the line, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk rose to the challenge on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Schalmont Sabres. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Joseph Latter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Alex Halwick was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Gavin Lochner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Schalmont, they dropped their record down to 8-11-1 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

As of now, neither Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk nor the Sabres have any future games scheduled.
