The East Stroudsburg South Cavaliers will head out on the road to face off against the Tamaqua Blue Raiders at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. East Stroudsburg South's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Tamaqua's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
East Stroudsburg South was handed a nine-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Louis E. Dieruff. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cavaliers have posted since April 18, 2024.
Liam Huffman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Alex Perez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Aaron Kasperski also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Tamaqua put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Pine Grove by a score of 4-0.
Cooper Ansbach and Landon Kamant did most of the damage at the plate: Ansbach scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Kamant scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Logan Morgans, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Tamaqua's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for East Stroudsburg South, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. East Stroudsburg South has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Tamaqua struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
East Stroudsburg South was able to grind out a solid win over Tamaqua in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for East Stroudsburg South since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
