Preview: Providence Hall Patriots vs. Summit Academy Bears
Providence Hall is 0-10 against Summit Academy since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Providence Hall Patriots will be playing at home against the Summit Academy Bears at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Providence Hall focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 last Tuesday.
Providence Hall's recent rough patch got a bit rougher after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Judge Memorial Catholic, falling 84-46. Providence Hall was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-23.
Providence Hall's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ireland Anderson, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds, and Paige Krebs who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Summit Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Layton Christian Academy on Thursday, but they still walked away with a 35-30 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Summit Academy.
Summit Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Destinee Flores, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds, and Avery Backus, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Backus is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Regan Georgeson, who scored two points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Providence Hall's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Summit Academy, they pushed their record up to 12-6 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Providence Hall lost to Summit Academy at home by a decisive 54-37 margin in their previous matchup on January 9th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Backus, who scored 22 points along with eight steals and seven assists.
