Baseball Game Preview: Streator Bulldogs vs. Reed-Custer Comets

The Streator Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Reed-Custer Comets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Streator is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Streator will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Ottawa on Thursday. The Bulldogs blew past the Pirates 16-6. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won three contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Isiah Weibel made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cole Winterrowd, who scored four runs while going 3-for-4. Clay Christoff was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Streator always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Reed-Custer's offense. They lost 9-0 to Wilmington on Tuesday. The Comets have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Streator's record is now 4-6. As for Reed-Custer, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Everything went Streator's way against Reed-Custer in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Streator made off with a 7-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
