Basketball Game Preview: Chico Dragons vs. New Way Christian Academy Eagles

The Chico Dragons will challenge the New Way Christian Academy Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Chico is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Poolville on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Dragons were beaten by the Monarchs 68-41. The Dragons have struggled against the Monarchs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Chico might have lost, but man, Jordan Weiland was a machine: he dropped a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Weiland has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 34 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Devin Akers, who posted nine points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, New Way Christian Academy had to start their season on the road two weeks ago, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They were outmatched by UME Preparatory Academy and fell 76-25.

Chico lost to New Way Christian Academy on the road by a decisive 84-66 margin when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
