Basketball Recap: Vinton County Gets the Win

Vinton County won the last time they faced Athens and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Vinton County Vikings came out on top against the Athens Bulldogs by a score of 64-56.

Athens' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Easton Nuzum, who went 9 of 15 on his way to 19 points. Those 19 points gave Nuzum a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Hughes, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 12 points and seven rebounds.

Vinton County now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Athens, they moved to 3-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vinton County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on South Webster at 7:30 p.m. on December 27th. Athens will take on Sheridan in a holiday battle at at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
