Basketball Recap: Davonte Robinson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Regis Groff over Thomas Jefferson

Regis Groff was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 65-52 to the Thomas Jefferson Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Fusion can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 235th, while the Spartans are ranked 112th).

Several Fusion players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Davonte Robinson, who went 9 of 19 on his way to 20 points and four steals. Robinson has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Javelle Taylor, who went 6 for 14 en route to 15 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.

Shane Curry was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 12 boards for Thomas Jefferson. That makes it three consecutive games in which Curry has scored at least a third of Thomas Jefferson's points. Simon Turner was another key player, putting up seven points.

Regis Groff's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Thomas Jefferson, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-4.

Regis Groff didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-49 victory against Addenbrooke Classical Academy on the 23rd. As for Thomas Jefferson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 71-34 win against Hinkley on the 24th.
