Basketball Recap: Donavin Mobley's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Laton over Riverdale Christian

Laton was the 50-35 winner over Riverdale Christian when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The Laton Mustangs took a 46-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riverdale Christian Ambassadors on Saturday. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly 11 points.

Laton lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Donavin Mobley, who posted eight points in addition to seven boards and five steals. Mobley has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jesus Saavedra, who had ten points.

Laton's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Riverdale Christian, with the victory, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laton will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Wonderful College Prep Academy at 7:15 p.m. on January 10, 2025. Riverdale Christian also won't see the court for a while: their next match is against Alpaugh at 5:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025. Riverdale Christian is facing Alpaugh at the right time seeing as Alpaugh is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
