Preview: East Lake Eagles vs. Mitchell Mustangs

The East Lake Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Mitchell Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. East Lake has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Last Monday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, East Lake beat St. Petersburg 40-36. The victory was just what East Lake needed coming off of a 54-30 loss in their prior contest.

East Lake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chanya Deboy led the charge by scoring 15 points. That's the first time this season that Deboy scored 15 or more points. Rose Cline was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.

Even though Mitchell has not done well against Wiregrass Ranch recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Mitchell secured a 41-36 W over Wiregrass Ranch. The win made it back-to-back wins for Mitchell.

East Lake's record now sits at 8-6. As for Mitchell, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

East Lake didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Mitchell in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 66-60 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Mitchell's Julia Rueda, who scored 21 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Now that she won't be playing on Wednesday, will it be that much easier for East Lake to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
