Preview: Gouverneur Wildcats vs. Salmon River Shamrocks
Gouverneur is 8-2 against Salmon River since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Gouverneur Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Salmon River Shamrocks at 7:15 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Gouverneur pushed their score all the way to 55 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Franklin Academy 60-55. While losing is never fun, Gouverneur can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 511th, while Franklin Academy is ranked 187th).
Despite their loss, Gouverneur saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Raine Rumble, who scored 17 points, was perhaps the best of all. Rumble is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jared Donaldson, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, sadly, Salmon River is still looking for their first win of the season after nine matches. They were beaten by Potsdam 112-31 last Monday. Salmon River has struggled against Potsdam recently, as their contest last Monday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Gouverneur has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. As for Salmon River, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-9.
Everything came up roses for Gouverneur against Salmon River in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 83-41 victory. With Gouverneur ahead 44-22 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
