Basketball Recap: Georgetown Day Starts Season with Loss at Home

Georgetown Day unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. The matchup between the Mighty Hoppers and the Avalon Black Knights didn't end well, with the Mighty Hoppers falling 87-73. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it ten in a row.

Avalon was led to victory by Toran Ayana and Jevon Hawkins. Ayana shot 4-for-6 from long range and dropped a double-double with 30 points and 11 boards, while Hawkins went 10-for-20 en route to 31 points. Those 30 points gave Ayana a new career-high. Wisdom Martin was another key player, putting up 15 points and three steals.

The win (which was Avalon's fifth in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 2-0.

Looking ahead, Georgetown Day will take on St. Anselm's Abbey at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Avalon, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 81-45 defeat against Severn School on the 5th.
