Murray hadn't beaten Cottonwood on the road since February 15, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, the Spartans made off with a 55-54 victory over the Colts. The win was all the more spectacular given the Spartans' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Colts are ranked 28th).

Despite the loss, Cottonwood still got an impressive performance from Luka Cecez, who dropped a double-double with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Cecez is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in each of the last 13 games he's played dating back to last season. Malei Atem was another key player, shooting 43% from the field on his way to 16 points along with five boards and three steals.

Murray's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Cottonwood, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-3.

Murray will wrap up 2025 with a road trip to face off against Olympus at 7:00 p.m. on the 27th. As for Cottonwood, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Summit Academy at 2:30 p.m. on the 29th.
