Basketball Recap: Clay-Battelle Sets Scoring Season-High Against Hundred

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clay-Battelle). Everything went their way against the Hundred Hornets on Friday as the Clay-Battelle Cee-Bees made off with an 82-61 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Cee-Bees sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Leading Clay-Battelle to victory were Preston Luzader and Cooper Payton. Luzader dropped a double-double with 37 points and 16 rebounds, while Payton went 12-for-25 on his way to 29 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Luzader's evening made it 16 games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. Caleb Snodgrass also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Clay-Battelle was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Hundred still got an impressive performance from Colt Sandy, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and 17 boards. Sandy has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more rebounds the last 15 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brayden Bartrug, who posted 15 points and five boards.

Clay-Battelle's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points over those games. As for Hundred, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clay-Battelle will square off against Union at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Union is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season. As for Hundred, they will challenge Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hundred knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 matches -- so hopefully Notre Dame likes a good challenge.
