Volleyball Recap: Newton's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Newton had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with a 2-0 win over the Robinson Maroons. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Newton took both sets by at least 11 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-14.

Hydi Bierman paced Newton's offense, picking up seven kills. Bierman got some help from Amy Shull and her 11 assists. Stella Schackmann controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Newton's victory bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Robinson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newton will welcome Mt. Carmel at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Robinson, they will face off against Mattoon at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
