Basketball Recap: Excel Comes Up Short

Excel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 16th straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 48-15 defeat at the hands of the Flomaton Hurricanes. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-7.

Excel lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Uri Guy, who posted three points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Guy has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Plunkett, who earned five points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Excel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 20 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Flomaton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jacie Himes led the charge by putting up 15 points. Another player making a difference was Talaisjah Wesley, who put up 12 points.

Excel's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Flomaton, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.

Excel didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 77-11 defeat against McIntosh on the 9th. As for Flomaton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 63-40 victory against Blacksher on the 9th.
