Basketball Game Preview: Rock Academy Warriors vs. San Diego Jewish Academy Lions

Rock Academy and San Diego Jewish Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2019, but not for long. The Rock Academy Warriors are taking a road trip to take on the San Diego Jewish Academy Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Rock Academy easily dispatched Orange Glen last Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Rock Academy fell just short of Vincent Memorial by a score of 62-60 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1286th, while the Scots are ranked 513th).

Rock Academy might have lost, but man, James Whitley was a machine: he dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Whitley's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Quentin Uhland, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 14 points in addition to six boards and six steals.

Even though they lost, Rock Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 7.4 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 5.6.

Meanwhile, San Diego Jewish Academy came up short against Calvin Christian on Tuesday and fell 48-39.

San Diego Jewish Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Rock Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-21.

Rock Academy came up short against San Diego Jewish Academy when the teams last played back in January, falling 58-50. Can Rock Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
