Soccer Game Preview: Kearney vs. Norfolk

The Kearney Bearcats will head out on the road to square off against the Norfolk Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kearney is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.6 goals per game this season.

Kearney is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Lincoln East, who was ranked seventh at the time (Kearney was ranked sixth). The Bearcats fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 3-2 on Monday. Kearney's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Brooklyn Lewis and Ashtyn Vancura scored both of Kearney's goals, bringing their combined season tally to seven goals.

Meanwhile, Norfolk fell victim to Lincoln Southwest and their airtight defense on Monday. They lost 10-0 to the Silver Hawks. The defeat continues a trend for Norfolk in their meetings with Lincoln Southwest: they've now lost seven in a row.

Norfolk's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Kearney, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-2.

Kearney was able to grind out a solid win over Norfolk when the teams last played back in March, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bearcats since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
