After a string of five wins, Overhills's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell to the E.E. Smith Golden Bulls 60-54. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Jaguars came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Golden Bulls are ranked 180th).

Overhills lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Demelvin Steele, who posted nine points. Another player making a difference was Ja?Von Motta, who earned 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Overhills' loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for E.E. Smith, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Overhills will take on Western Harnett at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Overhills is facing Western Harnett at the right time seeing as Western Harnett is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for E.E. Smith, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Pine Forest at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
