Baseball Recap: Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks vs. Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Newburgh Free Academy had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They never let the Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders onto the board and left with a 6-0 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Newburgh Free Academy as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Not much got past Chase Rounds, who gave up just five hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Monroe-Woodbury off the board. Rounds has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Jake Cross was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Clifford, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

On Monroe-Woodbury's side, they got a good showing from Braeden Burke, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Monroe-Woodbury saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Hayes, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
